006: Steadfast Love
Oh give thanks to the Lord , for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! - 1 Chronicles 16:34
I’m really starting to like these daily verses. They’re such great reminders of who God is and what that can mean for us. In today’s case we are reminded of God’s eternal goodness and I don’t know about you but that’s a reminder I needed today.

There are two pretty neat concepts in this verse: ‘steadfast lov'e’ and ‘enduring forever’. Alone these concepts are powerful but when combined they become a characteristic only able to be found in God.
Steadfast means resolute and unwavering, something that does not give in to the changes around it or the challenges presented to it. So steadfast love is love that remains resolute in the face of all the world can throw at it and perseveres through the challenges of each day.
Enduring forever means exactly what it sounds like. It never quits, it persists forever.
When we combine this resolute, unwavering, unchanging, unflinching love with the promise that it will persist and endure forever we are presented with a promise that seems too good to be true. We can think it’s too good to be true because we’re human and we know we aren’t capable of that sort of love but the funny thing about God and the Bible is that their promises always come true. It would be annoying that God is always perfect and his words are always true if he wasn’t so good and loving and merciful and gracious and forgiving and beautiful and awesome.
This is a promise that I’m holding onto tightly right now. I want to have a thankful spirit, I want to rejoice that God’s love for me will endure forever, and I want those to be default characteristics for me moving forward.
