If you're looking for a sandwich made with 51% lobster, Quizno's has you covered. Check out this commercial, but hopefully you've seen the longer version:

This commercial is a microcosm of our culture.

In the full version of the commercial they say, 'It's made with real lobster!'  Why?  If you're labeling something a Lobster Sub, shouldn't we assume it's made with real lobster?  You'd think so right? But we can't anymore. We've been lied to about so much by people that Quizno's is trying to gain our trust back by letting us know its 'real lobster!'

Here's the catch, if you look at the fine print during the commercial it says '51% Lobster'. REALLY?  When did 51% lobster become real lobster?!

I know, it's a bit weird getting pissed about a 'lobster' commercial, but like I said, this is about more than just a sandwich.  It's about truth.

Last time I checked, 51% constituted a majority not a whole.  I can't say I have a glass of Coke when it's 51% Coke and 49% water can I?  No!  But that's what Quizno's is doing.  And it's the same with American culture.  If it's another area code it's not cheating, right?  If the IRS never finds out, it's not fraud.  And so on.

Our culture is full of people and companies desperately trying to redefine what is true so they can get what they want.

I'm so annoyed by this I don't even know if I'm making sense.  I don't understand how people can think that 51% of the truth is the whole truth.  If I gave you 51% of your pay check would you be ok with that? Of if I gave you 51% of the medicine you needed to stay alive?

I hope my point is clear, this lack of honesty is RIDICULOUS. We cannot redefine what truth is and still expect to receive the benefits of honesty. It's not possible.  Look at anyone who's pulled off a Ponzi scheme. They used enough truth to hoodwink people out of millions.

So there it is, we've covered lobster and Ponzi schemes in the same blog post.  Only in America.

Here's the bottom line: don't cover your lies in half truths, you look stupid and you make the world a worse place.
