theSWITCH in Review #5 - Parables
Date: August 5
Theme for the night: Parables
Game: In honor of the Olympics we had some Olympic Trivia followed by some obscure relay races, namely reverse power walking and double lap skipping. Pretty much everyone looked ridiculous, which is always fun.
Lesson: We discussed the Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Parable of the Hidden Treasure. We hit on the idea that our knowledge of the Kingdom of Heaven when we are first saved is small, like a mustard seed, and as we grow, mature, and become more Christlike our knowledge of the Kingdom of Heaven grows into something much greater. We also discussed that our desire for Christ should match that of the man who sold EVERYTHING in order to get the hidden treasure.
It was a real fun night and I think the best part was how we ended. We split the students up into groups and had them come up with their own parables. Here's some of what they came up with:
The Kingdom of Heaven is like:
- trying to see into the depths of the ocean.
- unlimited refills of your favorite drink.
- finding a pot of Gold at the end of a rainbow.
Worship Songs:
Lead Me to the Cross
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
You Never Let Go
Overall Thoughts: Fun night, great insights by our students, and our first night with a violinist during worship!
